Hennepin Tech Program

Hennepin Tech

Boyer Trucks, in conjunction with Hennepin Technical College in Brooklyn Park, MN, has created one of the nation's first college accredited programs for light, medium and heavy duty truck technicians. The programs produce highly-trained graduates with the ability to diagnose, maintain and repair increasingly sophisticated vehicles in the trucking industry. Thirty-seven technical colleges have already adopted the curriculum, and indications are that it will continue to spread throughout the country.

The pilot program brought together Boyer Trucks, Ford Motor Company, Ford dealers, and technical colleges to create a curriculum for light truck service technicians called the Ford Asset Program. Based on the success of that program, Boyer initiated a new medium and heavy truck service internship called Medium Heavy Truck Technology (MHTT).

Both programs offer:
  • A two-year internship combining classroom work and paid, on-site work experience
  • An Associates Degree, upon graduation, which gives graduates enhanced computer and communications skills
  • Hands-on training with state of the art equipment
  • Direct placement opportunities for graduates

Along with taking the lead in developing the programs, Boyer is also providing financial aid to the colleges and student aid for tuition. The programs show encouraging results. Dealers employing graduates from the Ford Asset program have maintained a 90 percent retention rate over the past five years.
